As you know, art and artist have no boundaries and do not like to be bound by any conventions. What is known as street art today is speculated to have been born as graffiti which artists used to give out messages to the public either with something social or political about it. Soon this way of expression started to expand to artists using public places, buildings, sidewalks or pretty much any place they felt they could use.
Passing on a profound message: Many examples of street art are just the vehicle that is used to deliver a profound message that needs to be said. Since art appeals to the senses, people will stop and notice it and this means the first step of getting their attention which is often the problem in such campaigns, is taken care of.
